Top Home Decor and Design Trends of 2020
Ebony faucets for the bathroom vanity? You betcha! February is the month of LOVE and there is no better way to show your home some affection than to upgrade a few of your favorite spaces to the latest in home decor trends. Thankfully the National Home Builders annual trade show #KBIS2020 was recently held in Las Vegas to give us some inspiration.
First, let’s start with what is out…The 2010’s all white, open-concept, subway tiled kitchens are in the rear-view mirror. Even your standard stainless-steel appliances are being upgraded to a smudge-free black stainless. Can you tell the difference between Calacatta marble countertop and carrara? I can’t either but Calacatta is the new number one!
Notice anything missing? The microwave is no longer married to the stove and has been relegated to a space-under-the counter. At least it’s not getting the complete boot. Traditional tubs are completely out, except for those you’re not supposed to bathe in. Read more below.
The kitchen isn’t the only place seeing new trends… In general, the modern farmhouse trend is starting to fade and along with it, sliding barn doors, faux distressed wood, and terrazzo tile. Drop down pendants are still hanging around bathroom vanities but be selective with the globe. Profile-less door and window casing helped usher in the simple, modern product trend with natural color tones.
Smart home technology – everything is going wifi. From voice activated kitchen faucets to temperature-adjusting smart ovens that practically bake cookies for you. If you think an iphone app that can control your window shades is excessive new bluetooth enabled toilets can track your bowel movements, flush the toilet, and keep track of who is forgetting to close the lid.
Color trends – Black is back. Cabinets, flooring, countertops, even faucets are showing up in ebony. The only thing not getting washed in dark hues are walls.
Energy efficiency – Climate change is affecting improvement choices. Hailstorms, monsoons, endless zero degree days and energy zapping heat are all affecting the way homeowners are investing in home improvement products. Impact-resistant roof shingles, high efficiency furnaces, and tankless water heaters are the most popular. Low heat LED lighting and water-resistant luxury vinyl tile flooring are two products already in many homes of the environmentally conscience consumer.
Most unique trend – The Doggie Cantina! Our pets are constantly under foot, but the food bowl doesn’t have to be. Alcoves under kitchen cabinets are now being re-purposed for man’s best friend. Stowe away dog food, toys, and other supplies in full length, easy to reach pull out drawers.
